New resources have been developed by CDRC to support Primary Care Networks to detect and treat people living with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
CDRC and Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria (HI NENC) have teamed up to support primary care teams to use case finding resources and local renal guidelines. This work is part of HI NENC’s cardiovascular disease programme, which includes a focus on chronic kidney disease. The focus on CKD aims to improve earlier diagnosis and supporting early medical treatment of people with CKD, to slow disease progression and reduce the development of cardiovascular comorbidity.
Why is this important?
A report published by Kidney Research UK in February 2024 concluded that there is a strong case for the prevention and early diagnosis of Chronic Kidney Disease to be prioritised by the Government and NHS England.
The global prevalence of chronic kidney disease has risen by 87% between 1990–2016. Despite the absence of QoF incentives for CKD, the condition is commonly comorbid with diabetes, hypertension, heart failure and cardiovascular disease.
What support and resources can I access?
CDRC searches
Using searches provided by CDRC, it is possible to identify patient cohorts, supporting GP practices to manage their CKD populations. All CDRC resources are available at no cost to primary care users and available in SystmOne and EMIS. Click the links below for more information about resources.
This short video, delivered by Dr Tom Zamoyski (a North East GP), gives an overview of the range of resources available, to help you get started quickly.
