General Principles
All vaccines are now given under the GMS contract apart from children and adults seasonal flu.
Shingles Vaccine
Shingles Vaccination forms part of two main contracts:
- GMS Contract – item of service – shingles vaccination for patients aged 70-79
- Data is extracted via CQRS monthly
- QoF Payments – VI004 – payment dependent on the proportion of patients who are 80 years of age who have been vaccinated

Identifying and Inviting Eligible Patients
The highlighted report above shows patients eligible for a shingles vaccine.
Running the Invitation 1.0 report at monthly intervals will ensure that all patients are invited three times per year. Patients can also be targeted during the influenza vaccine campaign – their records will be flagged.
The Invitation 1.1 report will identify patients who have not responded to three invitations over the past year. Additional approaches could be considered.
Viewing CQRS Performance

Select the following breakdown option in each of the reports to obtain a monthly breakdown of eligible vaccines if you wish to compare this with your CQRS returns

Data Quality Issues Affecting Payment
The two QC reports identify people who have received shingrix but who are not classified as immunosuppressed according to the business rules. They will not be eligible for payment unless an immunosuppression code is added. The easiest code to use is Patient immunosuppressed which must be present in the 12m before each shingrix vaccine. It would be sensible to add this report to a batch report for contract data issues.
QoF Payments
The VI004 indicator requires 40-60% of patients aged 80 to have had a complete shingles vaccination course after the age of 70. The following reports will show current and end of year performance and missing patients

If the end of year performance is below target take the following actions using the Shingles Vaccination template:
- Vaccinate eligible patients – patients in report 1.2 (with a subreport showing patients who about to turn 80 where action is most urgent)
- Record vaccine declined or contraindicated (e.g. terminally ill) – patients in report 1.2
- Contact patients who are currently excepted and invite them for a vaccine – patients in report 1.3
