CDRC: Overview

What? CDRC is a NENC regional NHS owned digital resource with national reach, that enables individual clinicians and clinical organisations to deliver gold-standard patient care efficiently. CDRC is a collaboration of expert clinicians that develop clinical resources for clinicians in the clinical systems EMIS and SystmOne.

Why? CDRC supports low-cost improved patient care through powerful clinical searches, creation of dynamic templates, contextual alerts & patient status icons as well as standardised regional referral information allowing clinicians to streamline processes within primary care, improve patients’ outcomes and put clinicians in control of patient care. CDRC provides clinicians with ‘how to use guides’ to allow full navigation of the resources. All CDRC resources are centrally updated, and safety reviewed.

How? CDRC improves care and safety of patients by identifying undiagnosed, misdiagnosed conditions or those that are coded incorrectly and therefore allow clinicians to provide the appropriate care at the right time.  CDRC allows for flexible implementation and is fully safe and compliant with data sharing agreements. CDRC improves performance management with a suite of searches/reports which provide real-time data on many aspects of clinical performance. Through its central repository CDRC saves time and money by preventing clinicians across our region having to reinvent and create digital resources by facilitating a central repository.

Vision: CDRC has the ultimate ambition to become a regional central hub of free to use clinical resources. CDRC has evolved into a robust, bespoke, regional primary care asset with the potential to save lives, save money, save time, and positively impact primary care for both clinicians and patients.

Track Record: CDRC has already been proven to be affective across several conditions. Data was gathered across 13 GP practices within Derwentside, including atrial fibrillation, hypertension, diabetes, lipid modification and early detection and diagnosis of frailty. An evaluation highlighted that utilising CDRC resources improves outcomes for patients with potentially modifiable risk factors and identifies those who would benefit from optimised treatment.

Identifying 25% of those with the genetic condition Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH) is an NHS Long Term Plan ambition.  A pilot study took place across a further 9 GP practices within the NENC region. CDRC FH search templates identified double the number of eligible patients compared to conventional tools. A further 244 family members suitable for cascade genetic testing were found with an estimated prediction that 80 patients will be identified as FH positive and therefore at risk of premature cardiovascular disease. The CDRC FH search is now being scaled across the wider NENC footprint and included as a resource within the newly commissioned National Optimising Lipids programme.

Awards: CDRC was recognised as an NHS National Digital Blueprint for its work responding to the COVID pandemic and our COVID shielding, and vaccination resources are being adopted nationally.
