In collaboration with West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (WYICB), CDRC has developed a comprehensive suite of reports to identify patients living with diabetes (all types) who may or may not be using specific diabetes medical-technology ((continuous glucose monitors (CGM), insulin pumps, hybrid closed loop (HCL) systems)). These reports can be used:
- To identify and prioritise the people most likely to benefit from diabetes med-tech to optimise their diabetes management at practice/PCN/sub-ICB and ICB level,
- As a population health management tool to monitor diabetes med-tech activity in line with national and local implementation plans and
- To support equity of access to diabetes med-technology.
Accessing CDRC resources on SystmOne
To access the below resources you will need to be a member of the DCS group on SystmOne. To do this, please follow the instructions on the CDRC SystmOne Access webpage.
Guidance on the CDRC Diabetes Technology Reports
The reports are located in the CDRC Projects > Diabetes Technology folder:

As you can see, there is a considerable number of reports in this folder (673 in total). These reports have been grouped into the specific Diabetes Technologies for those coded with Type 1 and Type 2 / Other Diabetes in the clinical system. For each Diabetes Technology and Diabetes type, the reports are broken down further to highlight specific diabetes characteristics and demographic information, such as HbA1c level, number of Test Strip Prescriptions and Appointments; Ethnicity and Deprivation
Population Health Data Analysis
To run all the reports in the Diabetes Technology folder, right-click on the ” ! Diabetes Technology Folder Refresh Report ” and select ‘Run‘.
This process may take a few minutes.

With acknowledgement to the Data Quality Specialists at WYICB, the following spreadsheet has been developed which can be downloaded and used to enable interpretation of the data in a more user-friendly format.
To import the Diabetes Technology reports into this spreadsheet:
- Right-click on one of the reports > Table > Open as CSV
- Select columns A:B and copy these cells (ctrl + c).
- Open the spreadsheet “Diabetes Tech summary SystmOne”
- In the “Data” tab paste (ctrl + v) into cell A1.
- The data is now available in the “Table” tab.
Data Quality & Coding Improvements
WYICB worked with NHSE to get the following SNOMED codes added to the CT library – these codes are intended to support improved coding of diabetes technology in clinical records, inform diabetes clinical care and monitoring of diabetes med-tech access. Improved coding of diabetes med-technology use has the potential to support research and evaluation into the impact of diabetes med-technology on clinical outcomes and wellbeing in people living with diabetes.
The following codes should be used to improve med-technology coding accuracy, clinical safety associated with med-technology and ultimately the clinical care of your patients:
- 1464561000000107 : Provision of continuous glucose monitoring system
- 1464641000000105 : Continuous glucose monitoring stopped
- 2242591000000104 : Provision of continuous subcutaneous insulin pump
- 2242611000000107 : Automated delivery of insulin using continuous subcutaneous insulin pump stopped
- 2242601000000105 : Provision of hybrid closed loop continuous automated insulin delivery system
- 2242621000000101 : Automated delivery of insulin using hybrid closed loop system stopped
National Diabetes Audit (NDA) 2024-25 quarterly report for England
The NDA have released their quarterly report and there is a slight difference in the methods used by the NDA and CDRC to identify patients with Type 2 Diabetes using CGM.
NDA Type 2 diabetes/Other:
- For those with type 2 diabetes, those who have any short acting insulin prescription who are recorded as on CGM over a 12 month reporting period are counted
CDRC:
- For those with type 2 diabetes, those with any insulin drug on repeat or have a current insulin pump code who are recorded as on CGM are counted.
NDA Type 1 diabetes:
- The NDA type 1 diabetes on CGM denominator is unrestricted and insulin type is not considered.
The restriction of the NDA data set for CGM coverage in the type 1 diabetes population is that is only includes CGM that has been prescribed via FP10, not other CGM types accessed most often only via specialist diabetes services in secondary care.
The new SNOMED codes above have the potential to improve coding of med-technology use in the type 1 diabetes population within a person’s SystmOne electronic clinical record.
